Dear Members and Friends,
The Middle East continues to excite, confuse and worry UK business in equal measures. Jane Corbin has probably as much experience and insight of the region as any of our leading journalists, as she has demonstrated in a series of outstanding documentaries.
Yesterday Jane shared her current take on developments in the region with a packed room of Strategy members; including some very welcome recent members from the Middle East Association and representatives of the Saudi British Joint Business Council. Starting with a take on the security issues within and, for the UK, emerging from the region, the conversation roamed across a wide range of regional geo-political areas.
This is the first in an enhanced MENA region series of briefings and other regional BD assistance for Strategy's membership. It's a critical region for UK business and the sad demise of the Middle East Association leaves a gap. Both the D Group and British Expertise International have always provided assistance for members in the GCC and held regular events on the region, not least because key Trade themes include our strengths of defence, security and all forms of infrastructure.
We now sign off, as far as Strategy's Events are concerned, for part of August. The team, though, continues to work on member requests and projects, and the building here will get its normal Summer polish.
We look forward to what is shaping up to be a very interesting Events programme for the autumn, all amidst an exceptionally dynamic political environment.
Have a very enjoyable Summer!
Tracey Smith - Deputy Chair, Strategy International
