Dear Members and friends,

This year we take the combined D Group and British Expertise International membership 'on the road' to meet with six key regional, city and devolved area leaders. This reciprocates very informative and successful visits to us in London by leaders from Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield, Teeside and West Yorkshire. The focus of the visits will combine discussions with local decision-makers on inward investment needs and opportunities for engagement around domestic and international infrastructure programmes, such as rail, road and other key services. The visits will also provide a platform for knowledge building of regional expertise and how it might be embraced in UK PLC solutions for export activities. Click here for more information.

As the last in this series of visits, this week we were delighted to welcome Susan Hinchcliffe, Mayor of Bradford and leader of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. It was an impressive and engaging performance by Susan who helped us understand the particular needs of her region, the potential ways forward on any devolved settlement and the vibrancy, diversity and very high youth proportion of the area (Bradford has 25% of its population under 16 and more children than Devon). We look forward to continuing the dialogue.

The turn of the year has seen a steady flow of new members across the Strategy group and we very much welcome BP Operating Company, Mishcon de Reya LLP, PJD, Clearwater Advisers, Global Partners Governance and Evenproducts Ltd. We are also delighted to welcome the outstanding international grass roots entrepreneur charity Hand in Hand International.

Next week the growing BEI Middle East group welcomes HE Dr Salih Husain Ali, the Iraqi Ambassador to London to bring us up to date on key business, security and political matters.

We also welcome back Anna Soubry, last here as SME business minister. Agree or disagree with her very forceful advocacy, both for a much softer Brexit and for clarity from her party's leadership as to what the actual plan is, one has to admire Anna’s evident determination and bravery.

Looking forward to March, BEI is delighted to be sponsoring Palladium's Positive Impact Summit 2018: Reimagine Strategy on 14 and 15 March. Please contact Derrick Sanyahumbi if you are interested in participating in a challenging and thought-provoking summit.

With best wishes,

Peter O'Kane - Executive Chairman, Strategy International
