Dear Members and Friends

Last week I attended CG/LA’s Blueprint 2025 Infrastructure Conference in Washington DC. The driving force for the event was the President Trump promise of a Trillion Dollar Infrastructure spending spree. The event comprised excellent presentations from both the public and private sectors across a broad range of issues and opportunities.

The two presentations from Amtrak were particularly interesting, with projects in station regeneration in addition to track and tunnel upgrades. There are projects in many disciplines that would benefit from new technologies, for example embracing BIM and the IoT, including a number of energy related requirements. I will be updating the Infrastructure Working Group shortly and keeping in touch with GC/LA in the US but it’s clear that there are many opportunities for British expertise and BEI!

It’s been a busy week re-organising the events programme due to the unexpected election and the start of Purdah, but some will go ahead as planned, so please do keep an eye on the calendar and your email for any last-minute changes.

Our sister company D Contemporary held another great private view event this week for Japanese artist Yuuka Takahashi who creates beautiful works mixing traditional Japanese techniques with a modern sensibility. The exhibition will run until 16 May, Monday to Saturday 1100 to 1800.

Finally, good luck to our Tough Mudder Team who will be ‘getting down and dirty’ this weekend at the London West Half Tough Mudder.

Hope to see you all soon.

Best wishes,

Tracey Smith - Deputy Chair, Strategy International
