Over the course of the last two years, The D Group has embarked on a sustained programme of engagement with the devolved cities and regions of the UK. In this time, we have had visits from leaders from Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Sheffield, Newcastle, Leeds and the Tees Valley.
The result of these engagements has been a desire from both sides to continue the productive conversations begun at 23 Grafton Street. To that end, 2018 will see D Group and sister company BEI take to the road for a series of engagements in situ.
The continuing devolution of power and funding to local government make this an opportune moment for such an initiative. With needs in every sector, notably infrastructure, transport, healthcare and all the accompanying professional services the case for proactive membership engagement is as strong as it has ever been.
Newcastle is an outward-looking, forward-thinking city that is investing for the future - a place where businesses grow, thrive and stay. It is international and European, cosmopolitan and progressive – Newcastle is a city which is constantly evolving and improving.
The council is driving growth through an extensive programme of capital infrastructure, attracting new businesses and investment into the city, ensuring Newcastle is prepared for environmental change, and working with partners to create the conditions for more and better jobs. With an investment fund of £370m for the next three years, and a whole host of transport, infrastructure and development projects to be completed, Newcastle is a prime case for inward investment.
The D Group’s visit falls during the Great Exhibition of the North, which presents a great opportunity for the delegation to see how Newcastle and the north are driving this country into the future.
