We are delighted to invite you to the third in a sequence of jointly held High Commission of Canada and BEI events, each part of a series where we are working to inform senior management in the UK infrastructure sector about opportunities in Canada. Canada is considered one of the top export and investment destinations for UK professional service firms and the High Commission has been extremely supportive in assisting UK enterprise.
The first of these events saw BEI members discussing policy with the Canadian Finance Minister, the Hon Bill Morneau. This was followed by members discussing further detail in a session jointly addressed by Howard Drake, the UK’s High Commissioner to Canada and Janice Charette, the High Commissioner of Canada to the UK. We now move on to drilling down in more detail to specific opportunities.
The half day event will see BEI members listening to and engaging with some of Canada’s major infrastructure procurement authorities and investors. This event is further co-hosted by DIT, and UKEF will also attend. Organisations speaking are;
The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) who will be leading the group of speakers/panellists at the event and is Canada’s newest tool to build more infrastructure across the country. CIB will work with all levels of government to structure opportunities around revenue generating infrastructure. Along with governments and investors they will work to identify a pipeline of potential projects and investment opportunities that are truly transformational and provide the biggest economic, social and environmental returns.
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) is a Crown agency of the Government of Ontario which acts as procurement and commercial lead for all major public infrastructure projects in the province. IO has a track record of delivering projects on budget using the Alternative Finance and Procurement model. In 2016, IO was named the Canada’s P3 Agency of the Year and will bring its 100th project to market in 2017. IO's pipeline includes new investments in healthcare, justice and expansion of Ontario’s regional express rail and light trail transit projects with Metrolinx.
Translink Translink is Vancouver’s transportation authority, which like London and Paris brings public transit and roads under one central authority with its own revenue stream. They manage a total asset portfolio valued at $9bn including buses, train stations, bridges, structures and facilities. Translink is in a $2bn expansion phase to include expansion of the skytrain system, develop the regions first LRT, replace an ageing bridge and increase regional rails services.
