Speaker: Prof. Dieter Helm CBE, Professor of Energy Policy, University of Oxford
Climate change is an enormous challenge, and needs significant investment in new technologies in order to tackle it. While there is an increasing level of interest in environmentally friendly and sustainable technologies among UK households, ultimately greenhouse gas emission reduction requires government intervention. So what is the future for the Green Agenda over the coming years?
Professor Dieter Helm is an economist specialising in utilities, infrastructure, regulation and the environment, and concentrating on the energy, water, communications and transport sectors primarily in Britain and Europe. He is a Professor at the University of Oxford, Fellow of New College, Oxford, and a Professorial Research Fellow of the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. During 2011, Dieter assisted the European Commission in preparing the Energy Roadmap 2050, serving both as a special advisor to the European Commissioner for Energy and as Chairman of the Ad Hoc Advisory Group on the Roadmap. We look forward to hearing his views.
