Speaker: Kari Aina Eik, Secretary General, Organization for International Economic Relations (OiER)
We are very pleased to welcome Kari Aina Eik, Secretary General of the Organization for International Economic Relations (OiER), based in Vienna, to talk about the United Smart Cities program. The United Smart Cities program is a global initiative, established by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in cooperation with the OiER. The main program objectives encompass promoting sustainable development and project in cities at a global level, supporting cities in transition and developing countries to develop smarter and more sustainable urban solutions, establishing a multi-stakeholder platform and content hub for smart city initiatives, identifying and developing new smart financing mechanism, especially for PPPs, and ensuring knowledge transfer to identify best practices and lessons learned among cities.
As well as Secretary General, Kari Aina Eik is a senior advisor to Governments and UN agencies for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 7, 9, 11 and 17. She is the founder of the USC (United Smart Cities) program and the Co-Chair of U4SSC, United for Smart Sustainable Cities, and the leader of its new finance group, a global integrated UN initiative on urban development and Smart Cities.
She is currently the Co-Chair of REM, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Real Estate Advisory Board and leading its Working Group on urban development and smart cities.
