The Sports Economy Team in DIT is responsible for growing the supply of export ready companies within the sector, helping facilitate access to a pipeline of high value opportunities, and helping the sector to present a competitive and compelling UK offer that is aligned to overseas need.
The main focus of the team is currently on the 2019 Japan Rugby World Cup and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Qatar 2022 Football World Cup and the development of football in China and India. The team are though also pursuing opportunities arising from the development of a new sports park in Hong Kong, the 2017 Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan, the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
We are pleased to welcome as our speaker Andrew Bacchus, Head of the Global Sports Projects team at DIT. BEI have known Andrew and his team for a number of years and have been priviledged to have organised a number of missions for them. Global sports projects provide a range of business opportunities for BEI members, from initial master-planning studies, through to design and construction management of sports stadia and related infrastructure, and then specialist areas such as overlay, security, ticketing, hospitality, catering and media relations, to name but a few!
