We are delighted to welcome Mark Prisk MP, Hertford & Stortford & Prime Minister’s Trade and Investment Envoy to Nordic and Baltic Countries and Brazil to speak on Smart Cities.
£250 billion: this was the figure put on the global opportunity associated with smart city development by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills in their 2013 report called ‘Smart Cities Market – Opportunities for the UK’.
The global urban population is forecast to double from 2000 to 2025, with 180,000 people joining a city each and every day. City leaders are on a constant search for more efficient ways to analyse data, anticipate problems and coordinate resources in their cities. The goal for many is to become a Smart City, one that, through technology, better understands its own ecosystem, and continually improves its operation as a result.
Mark Prisk, Conservative MP for Hertford and Stortford, is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Smart Cities. He was appointed Minister of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government in September 2012. His previous roles in Government were as Minister of State for Housing and as Minister for Small Business, Industry and Enterprise. The Smart City concept offers opportunity to an extremely wide range of enterprise and this event will be of interest to all with a contribution to make.
