An update on business opportunities in Pakistan from Belinda Lewis, British Deputy High Commissioner and Director of International Trade, and Malahat Awan, CEO British Business Centre.
Belinda Lewis took up her position in Karachi in June 2016. Belinda joined the UK Civil Service from the private sector in 2003, and worked for a number of Government departments in the UK, before being posted to Afghanistan as Head of Mission for the Helmand Provincial Reconstruction team from 2013-14, and then as Deputy Ambassador to Iraq. As Deputy High Commissioner, based in Karachi, she leads the International Trade (formerly UKTI) team in Pakistan.
Malahat Awan was appointed the inaugural CEO of the British Business Centre, also based in Karachi, in January 2016. The centre works very closely with the British High Commission, promoting trade, industry, investment and economic relations between the UK and Pakistan.
The talk will focus on the following priority sectors:
- Defence & Security
- Agriculture & Food
- Financial Services
There will also be a discussion of the aid-funded business sector, where Pakistan has a number of programmes funded by DFID, World Bank, Asian Development Bank etc.
