The Business Council for Africa and British Expertise International are very pleased to be hosting British Heads of Mission from the West Africa Region during the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s Leadership Week. This meeting will be an opportunity to hear from the UK’s leading diplomats in the region, and to discuss the latest political and economic developments in their markets. We will be joined by:
David Belgrove OBE - Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Liberia
Mr Belgrove joined the FCO in 1982 and has served in the Czech Republic, Kuwait, India, Canada, Afghanistan and Liberia. Most he served as Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General at the British Embassy in Khartoum. He was awarded an OBE in 2010 for his work in Afghanistan. He became Ambassador to the Republic of Liberia in April 2015.
Catherine Inglehearn - Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea
Ms Inglehearn joined the FCO in 1990 and until recently was Deputy Head of East-West Africa Department. Her FCO career has included a wide range of roles covering Africa, Eastern Europe and energy related issues, with postings to Kazakhstan, Slovenia and Italy. She became Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea in June 2015.
George Hodgson - Her Majesty's Ambassador to Senegal and non-resident Ambassador to Cabo Verde and Guinea-Bissau
Mr Hodgson joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2002. He previously served in Washington, Kabul, Islamabad, Brussels and London, before taking on his current role in July 2015.
John Dennis - Her Majesty's Ambassador to Angola
Mr Dennis joined the FCO in 1981. Since then he has worked on African, Asian and commercial affairs, with a range of overseas postings. He has spent the last four years leading the department which deals with southern and central Africa. He took up his posting to Angola in February 2014.
Simon Shercliff OBE - Her Majesty's Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria
Mr Shercliff OBE has worked for the FCO since 1998 and has enjoyed postings to Afghanistan, Iran and the United States. In February 2014 he took up his posting at the High Commission in Abuja.
Jon Benjamin - Her Majesty's High Commissioner to Ghana
Jon Benjamin, who is from London, has been British High Commissioner to Ghana since May 2014 and is also non-resident Ambassador to Togo, Benin and Burkina Faso. His previous posting was as British Ambassador to Chile from December 2009 to January 2014
