Alexander Downer AC, Australian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.jpg

We welcome the Hon Alexander Downer AC, Australian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom to speak on Brexit and what it means for the Commonwealth and Australia.

Alexander Downer, appointed Australian High Commissioner in London in March 2014, is a former AustralianForeign Minister- and, from 11 March 1996 to 3 December 2007, the longest-serving in Australian history. He was also the Leader of the Opposition in 1994/1995. As we write Australia's Trade Minister is visiting London and has stated a firm desire to conclude a post-Brexit UK-Australia Trade Agreement, but has also noted that this is likely to be some two and half years away. Whether this will be an individual case or a precursor to the pattern of the UK's future Trade Agreements remains to be seen. This event is for anyone with an interest in not only our relations with Australia but also the post-Brexit trading world.

This is a D Group event. For members only.
