We are delighted that Baroness Nicholson, the Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, has agreed to a CATBIG meeting to brief members on her initial views on the business opportunities following her recent visits to both countries in June, where she attended the Oil & Gas exhibition in Baku, and the Turkmenistan - UK Trade & Industry Council (TUKTIC) meeting in Ashgabat.
The meeting will be held in the historic House of Lords, providing an excellent networking opportunity. We will also hear from the Department for International Trade (DIT, formerly UKTI) about their priorities in the region.
Emma Nicholson was Conservative Party Vice Chairman between 1983-87, and was elected Conservative Member of Parliament for Torridge and West Devon in 1987. She defected to the Liberal Democrats in 1995 and was made a Life Peer as Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne in 1997. She then served as a Liberal Democrat member of the European Parliament for South East England from 1999-2009.
In the House of Lords, Baroness Nicholson is a frequent contributor to deliberations on a wide range of subjects, including foreign affairs, the Islamic World, human rights, refugees and displaced people, and poverty reduction.
As well as her appointment as the Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, she has also served as the PM's Trade Envoy to Iraq since January 2014, where she is the Executive Chairman of the Iraq Britain Business Council.
